How to Store Skincare in Pakistan's Heat (So It Actually Works)
Vitamin C turning orange? Sunscreen separating? Heat and light break skincare down fast. Here's how to keep yours working all summer.

Pakistani summers regularly pass 40°C, and bathrooms get hot and humid. That's tough on skincare: active ingredients break down, creams separate and products stop working long before their expiry date.
Signs your skincare has been damaged by heat
- Vitamin C serum turning dark yellow or orange
- Sunscreen or creams separating into oily and watery layers
- A change in smell or texture
- Pumps clogging or products turning runny
Where to store it
Not in the bathroom. Steam and heat from showers are the biggest culprits. A shelf in your bedroom, away from the window, is far better.
Away from sunlight. UV light breaks down retinol and vitamin C. Keep bottles out of direct sun — opaque or tinted bottles help.
Somewhere cool. In peak summer, sensitive products (vitamin C, eye creams, sheet masks) last longer somewhere cool and stable.
Products that like it cool
- Vitamin C serums
- Eye creams and gels
- Sheet masks (a cold mask also feels amazing)
- Aloe vera gels
Products that should NOT go in a fridge
- Oils and balms (they harden)
- Clay masks (they dry out)
- Most makeup — foundation can separate when cold
Quick habits
- Close lids tightly straight after use.
- Use clean, dry hands or a spatula for jars.
- Buy smaller sizes in summer so you finish them while they're fresh.
- Write the opening date on the bottle with a marker.
